What is Botox and how does it work?
Botox is a protected brand name for botulinum toxin type A, which today is used not only in aesthetic medicine but also in neurology, ophthalmology and other branches of medicine. Botox is a medicine that acts at the neuromuscular junction, blocking the transmission of the nerve impulse and muscle contraction. It is ideal for correcting expression lines in the upper third of the face (between the brows, on the forehead and around the eyes).
Repeated movements of the mimic muscles in the upper third of the face “break” the skin every day. As the skin naturally loses quality and resilience with age, this leads over the years to the formation of wrinkles and their deepening.
Expertly administered botulinum toxin smooths existing wrinkles and prevents them from deepening, while the skin above them becomes firmer — all with a preserved, natural appearance.
Frequently asked questions
The procedure is safe, quick and virtually painless, with a numbing cream applied beforehand. The injections are performed exclusively by a certified doctor with extensive experience.
The effect appears 3–7 days after the injections and lasts 3–6 months. With regular treatment the effect lasts longer, because over time we “learn” to use these muscles less.
The procedure is exceptionally safe — at Rejuva Clinic we use exclusively botulinum toxin by Allergan, which — under the protected name Vistabel/Botox — is the only product registered in Serbia as a medicine for use in aesthetic medicine and for the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
Besides this most common use for smoothing wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, Botox can also be used to treat excessive sweating, as well as to correct other lines on the face and neck (on the nose, around the lips, the so-called “gummy smile”, neck bands…).
Botox must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in certain neurological conditions, autoimmune diseases or acute infections… To find out whether you are a candidate for a Botox treatment, book a consultation with Dr Aleksandra.
